The Rocks is the oldest part of Sydney so it makes sense for the visitors to start their Sydney tours right here. You will find here number of historical building including the oldest one in Australia – Cadman’s Cottage built in 1816.
Cadman’s Cottage was firstly used to accommodate incoming sailors, later it was called home by released convict John Cadman and his family. Today it is used as a headquarter of the National Park and Wildlife Services, where you will be provided with an abundance of tourist material regarding Sydney’s natural wildlife.

There is number of other significant historical buildings located in The Rocks such as Sailors House (built 1864), Unwins Stores (built 1844) with its pitoresque little coffee shops and The Orient Hotel, on of the oldest hotels in Australia.
While exploring The Rocks, you may find yourself in its beautiful Observatory Park. Here you will have an opportunity to take some stunning pictures of another Sydney’s icon, the Harbour Bridge. You may also consider to get a taste of some local beers at nearby hotel Lord Nelson, established in 1842 and proudly carrying the title of the oldest hotel in Sydney.
From there you could continue downhill to the harbour, where with a little bit of luck, you will see storage warehouses packed to the roof by one of the major Australian export articles – wool.

Once you reach the water, you can continue on under the Harbour Bridge, back to the more touristy part of The Rocks. Here, on the bank of the Campbell Cove, is located one of the most beautiful hotels in Sydney, Park Hyatt. If you are not on a thight budget, you could enjoy some rest during the lunch at Campbell’s Store which will offer not only delicious food but also some more spectacular views of the harbour.
After lunch if you feel like a little bit of local culture and traditional arts you can’t walk pass The Story Of Sydney with its multimedia tour through Sydney’s history and not visit the Aboriginal and Tribal Art Centre for an introduction to the art of indigenous Australians.

By this time, the day is probably nearing its end and so is your tour around The Rocks. If you want to rest your legs and see the night covering Sydney’s skyline, try to get in some of the typical australian pubs at hand such as Mercantile Hotel or Glenmore pub both located directly under the Harbour Bridge.
As you can see there is a lot to experience in The Rocks so make sure you put it in schedule of your next trip to Sydney.
